I am now starting to search for wills of the children of William Ripley (1769-1845) and Hannah Coates (1775-1817). Their daughter Elizabeth Ripley (1798-1882) married John Wood (1796-1845). He died in 1845, leaving Elizabeth a widow with many children, several under the age of 14. Descendants of Elizabeth and John will be interested in the large collection of documents surrounding the settlement of his estate viewable online at Family Search. Estate papers of John Wood are found in Estate Files 1764-1938, no 2174-2222, #2193, Images 374-434. These papers include the will (misdated as 1848), estate inventory, map of land allocations, guardianship assignments and fees paid for tutoring. It's a little puzzling that some of the documents describe John Wood as having died intestate even though a will was included in the package. Perhaps I am misreading. I am not sure how guardian Amos Wood was related. Was he a brother?
