Rebecca's Obituary 1903
From the Amherst Daily News April 24, 1903, pg. 4
The death took place yesterday, April 23rd, at her home at Maccan of Mrs. Robert Ripley in her 85th year of her age. The deceased was the last of the family of the late Jonathan Vickery of Parrsboro. Her husband died some time ago. Five boys and three girls survive her: William, James, Phebe, and Ester of Maccan, Johnathan Ripley and Mrs. Howard Ripley of Amherst, Mrs. R. S. Ripley of Springhill, Mrs. Nelson Phinney of Parrsboro. The funeral will be on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock from her late residence.
Notes: The obituary agrees with the date on Rebecca's gravestone in the Michael Fortune Cemetery and with the Family Bible. Mrs. Howard Ripley is daughter Alice Rebecca Ripley. Mrs. R. S. Ripley is daughter Hannah Elizabeth Ripley married to Robert Salter Ripley; they were my great grandparents. Mrs. Nelson Phinney is daughter Mary Jane Ripley. The information that Rebecca was the daughter of Jonathan Vickery of Parrsboro is one of only two confirmations I have of a possible Mayflower connection through the Vickery family.
