The Langille Portrait
I discovered this photograph among my mother's belongings. Someone had written Robert Salter Ripley and Hannah Elizabeth Ripley on the matte. However, the date stamp on the back of the photograph indicates the photograph was taken in November 1918 and Hannah died in 1910. In addition, Robert Salter Ripley and Hannah Elizabeth Ripley had 6 daughters and 4 sons and this family has only one daughter.
I am fairly certain that this is a portrait of the Langille family. My grandmother, Alice Malinda Ripley, lived with her sister Emma in Springhill after their mother died and their father remarried. It is likely the photo was originally in my grandmother's possession and passed to my mother.
In 1918, the ages of the Langille family members are as follows:
Solomon Burton Langille 44
Emma Rebecca Ripley 44
Emerson Ronald Langille 20
Robert Burton Langille 18
Harold Elroy Langille 17
James Trueman Langille 15
Hannah Irene Langille 12
Osborne Bamford Langille 10
Warren Lloyd Langille 9
Incidentally, Warren Lloyd Langille grew up to be the Reverend Warren Lloyd Langille of Springhill.
