OBITUARY
Miss Esther L. Ripley
The death occurred suddenly Saturday morning of Miss Esther L. Ripley at the home of her sister, Mrs. H. A. Ripley. The deceased went to bed the previous evening in the usual health, but awakened early in the morning and expired shortly after the doctor arrived.
She was born in Maccan on July 14, 1862, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ripley and made her home in Amherst with her sister Mrs. H. A. Ripley. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Mary Phinney of Watertown, Mass. and Mrs. H.A. Ripley, and two brothers, James of Maccan and Jonathan, formerly of Amherst but now residing in Seattle, Wash. The funeral was held this afternoon at 2 o'clock with interment in the family lot at Maccan.

Esther L. Ripley was the daughter of Robert Ripley and Rebecca Vickery. Esther did not marry and lived with her mother Rebecca until Rebecca's death and then with her sister Alice R. Ripley and brother-in-law Howard Andrew Ripley until her death (see Timeline). Mrs. H. A. Ripley mentioned in the obituary is Esther's sister Alice R. Ripley who married Howard Andrew Ripley. Mrs. Mary Phinney is Esther's sister Mary Jane Ripley who married Nelson Phinney. James is brother James Crosscomb Ripley. Jonathan is brother Jonathan V. Ripley who was living in Seattle on the 1930 census but returned to Amherst and was buried with his wife Isabella B. Coates in the Amherst Cemetery.
