Homestead of William Ripley and Mary Scott Brown
On 24 June 1831, Robert Ripley and Jane Rushton's second son William Ripley Junior (1809-1844) purchased a 195 acre property from Thomas Dodsworth. The property was half of the lot originally granted to Asaell Wells. (Deed Book L, p. 191, registered 1831 in Cumberland County, Doc. # 503712609). On June 27, 1836, William Ripley Junior and his wife Mary sold the 195-acre property to Henry Smith. This property, on which the couple then lived, was part of half of a lot of land originally granted to Asael Wells and was bounded on the west by the road to Springhill, and by properties owned by a Mr. Green, Jesse Harrison, and George Smith. (Deed Book O, p. 200.) This was likely Asael Well’s grant of 450 acres near Rodney. (Folio 169, Book A, p. 30. Viewable on Crown Land Index Map number 60.) On July 15, 1837, William Ripley Junior of Maccan purchased 375 acres from Amos Fowler. (Deed Book P, p. 419.) This may have been part of 1000 acres owned by Amos Fowler Jr. and Amos Fowler Sr. near East Southampton. On June 20, 1839, William Ripley Junior and his wife Mary sold a property of 375 acres to Jamison Brown. (Deed Book R, p. 28.) William died five years later in 1844 and is buried in the Southampton Cemetery.
