The Vickery Family in Parrsboro and Diligent River
Arrival
Historical Notes Parrsboro and Vicinity Sketch 16, p. 16, says the Vickery family and others arrived in the Parrsboro area between 1798 and 1800. The Messrs. Vickery and Davison were originally from Connecticut and had moved first to Falmouth before coming to Parrsboro. Sons William and James bought lots 7 & 8 from the Partridge Island Grant. James, Jonathan, Christopher (and presumably Fones) went to Diligent River and bought lots 72 and 73.
On 18 Jun 1798 in Parrsboro, Cumberland County, Jonathan Vickery, Jonathan Vickery Jr. and John Vickery donated to the English King in support of the war against the French. (History of King's County, pp. 119, 120)

3 May 1839, Stephen Vickery of Parrsboro, for 3 pounds each, bought out the interest of the heirs of the late Jonathan Vickery in 120 acres of lot 72 formerly granted to Jonathan Vickery under Governor Dalhousie in the reign of George the 4th. Vickery Wills
Will of James Vickery (1790-1830) of Parrsboro. View the short will online here and use the arrow keys to navigate to the next page. This James Vickery married Mary Tate (1800-). The will mentions wife Mary and children Jonathan, Edward, James and Olivia. I discovered this will by accident in the Kings County will book volume 1-2 while searching for another document. Since the children were minors there may be other documents concerning their guardianship and the probate letter mentions an inventory. Unfortunately neither the will books nor the guardianship papers for Kings County are indexed but descendants might want to search through the files here. (Nova Scotia Probate Records 1760-1993 online at Family Search. Kings County. Will Books 1783-1847, Volumes 1 and 2. Images 354 and 355.)
Estate Papers of Christopher Vickery (1781-9 Jul 1837) who died intestate in Parrsboro.
Short entry dated 26 July 1837 stating that probate was granted for wife Phebe can be viewed online here. Jonathan Davison and James Vickery (probably their son) helped with the bond of 200 pounds and the inventory was to be completed by Fones Yorke and John Smith Jr. both of Parrsboro. (Nova Scotia Probate Records 1760-1993 online at Family Search. Kings County. Will Books 1783-1847, Volumes 1 and 2. Image 414.)
Also a warrant dated 22 Sep 1858, 20 years after Christopher's death, showing how his real estate (Lot 72) was to be divided can be viewed online here. Mentioned in the documents are widow Phebe, eldest son James A. Vickery, son Bartlett Vickery, the heirs of Ansel, deceased, Catherine wife of David Harris, Sophia wife of Ephraim Lamb (or the heirs of Sophia Lamb), and Mary Vickery, wife of Robert Gabriel. In the 1858 document, Catherine is called Catherine Jenks and later wife of David Harris Jenks. The surviving children of Sophia Lamb are also listed. A map of the lot is included and it's interesting to compare this map with the joint grant to James and Christopher on the Nova Scotia Land Map 51.
