I certainly didn't expect to find such a connection among the Ripleys, who all seemed to originated in Yorkshire and marry the children of other Yorkshire settlers.
But late Sunday night, exploring the origins of Rebecca Vickery on Ancestry.com, I encountered evidence that the Vickery family originally came from Massachusetts.
Rebecca Vickery, my second great grandmother, appears to be the descendant of Benjamin Vickery who married Dorcas Paine, granddaughter of Mayflower passenger Constance Hopkins. I have summarized the research on this website on the Mayflower Connection page. The first 5 generations descended from Constance Hopkins appear to be well-documented. Ironically, it is the generation of Rebecca's parents that is proving hardest to pin down. I have confirmation from various Vickery family histories online and mentions of the family in Diligent River but no actual records as yet linking Rebecca to parents Jonathan Vickery and Hannah Allen. Naturally I plan to pursue this exciting development!
