I had a great deal of fun today eating toast with maple butter, adding what I had learned about Andrew's home place and grant, and uploading photos from my visit to Neil R. and Linda Ripley's sugar camp. Not so much fun trying to decipher the handwriting on a pile of deeds I brought back for Andrew's various transactions. In my update I have included only the deed for Andrew's original purchase of the land from the DesBarres estate. However, it seems that Andrew may have leased or mortgaged the property on at least two occasions although the title must have always reverted to him as his unmarried children did inherit the property. A good project for a rainy day.

Mallory thank you so much for collecting and sharing all this wonderful information. I married into the Ripley Family 29 years ago. My husband and I had been planning a trip to visit the Cabot trail in Sept for my birthday and by accident but maybe not so much an accident we found your website. My husband's immediate family comes from the St.Thomas, ON area but my husband grew up in Northern, ON his mom past away 20 years ago but his dad will be 92 this year and still doing pretty good all considered and lives near us in the Toronto area. His memory is still very good for the past but not so great on current things. I just wanted send a quick email to say thank you for helping to make our trip to Nova Scotia even more interesting with all this new information now available to us. If there is any additional information we can help with please let us know.

Hi Mallory, Great site! Thank you for the info. Although I am not related to the Ripley family, I stumbled upon it while doing research on Wilbert B. Embree. His second wife was Augusta Smith, d/o Hannah Ripley. "Grandma Gussie" was my mothers step-great grandmother. I am not sure of the complete story but she became step-mother to a lot of Wilbert's children and apparently was a wonderful person. Augusta and Wilbert did have one of their own children and I believe her name was Anna (same name as Gussies oldest sister). Anna would be my great-grandmothers half sister. I had also heard that despite the fact that Gussie was a mother to many children that were not her own, her husband did not adopt the child she had from her first husband. From what I can see on your website, her name was Lauretta and she died at a young age. Anyway, I really appreciate this great website and all the info, even if I am not directly related. Thank you!

Hi Virginia. Thanks so much for commenting. If you have an Ancestry account you might want to check out what I have there on Wilbert B. Embree and Augusta Eveline Smith. Augusta may have had another son with Stephen Smith Weldon prior to marrying Wilbert. Or she may have adopted a son. His name was Stanley Osbourne Weldon and he had previously been living with grandparents Hannah Lake Smith and John Parkinson Pipes as Stanley Smith, an adopted son. Stanley was born in 1897. The daughter of Wilbert B. Embree and Augusta Smith was Anna Beatrice Embree (1902-1997). She married an Oswald Leon Brown and they had 3 children. I have Wilbert Barry Embree first married to Minnie Jane Atkinson and they had 7 children. Good luck in your research and glad my site was helpful.
