Today I added four new pages summarizing research on a large number of properties owned by Smith and Shipley families around 1837. These properties were located on Smith Road from about the railroad tracks to the small pond where the homestead of Francis Smith was located. Captain John Smith, who perished at sea in 1819, and his wife Dorothy (Shipley) lived just south of today's Smith Road. Their sons Francis Caleb Smith, Thomas Smith, and John Smith, all bought properties north of today's Smith Road. Dorothy's brother James Shipley was married to Isabella Ripley. James and their sons James Jr., William, Joseph, and Henry purchased lots south of "widow Smith" and bordering on the Nappan River. James and Dorothy's sister Hannah (Shipley), widow of Flemming Hunter also purchased a lot that bordered on the Nappan River. For more information, see the overview Smith Road: The Moffat Lots on this website. The overview links to detailed descriptions for the properties north of Smith Road, the property owned by "widow Smith", and the properties that bordered on the Nappan River.

Hello,. Dorothy Shipley Smith married James Herbert Ripley. So Captain John Smith was her first husband? but he died in 1819? She was born in 1838. Is there another Dorothy Shipley Smith maybe?
