Today I added a new page on John Ripley's Homestead. After going through a number of deeds, it appears that John purchased a very large homestead of 850 acres or more which had previously been granted to Moses Delesdernier and his children. This property was located on the River Philip north of Oxford. If you've driven from Oxford to Mt. Pleasant Road toward Kolbec, you've likely driven through it. The large size of this purchase is surprising. It was also somewhat surprising to discover that John's homestead was located in the Oxford area. I had assumed that John lived further to the south in River Philip. The deeds are also helping to establish that John indeed married a second time to Mary Baker and that his son Robert married a second time to Isabella Tait. The location of the homestead also explains why Oxford is listed as the birthplace of John's daughter Isabella. John's sons Joseph, Thomas, and Robert also obtained grants nearby.
