Estate files of William Ripley (1769 or 1774-19 June1845) of Maccan.
William was the son of Robert Ripley and Isabella Beane. His first wife was Hannah Coates (1775-1817) and his second wife, named in the will, was Christiana Ennis Shipley (1780-).
This collection includes a lengthy will made in 1840, a codicil to the will made 6 January 1844, and an estate inventory.
The will confirms that the Hannah Ripley (1817-1876) who was raised by Mary Ripley and Robert Read and married John Holmes Smith was his daughter. The bequest to Matilda (Riley) Ripley, wife of Henry Ripley is a little puzzling. See also William's Will on this website.

Estate of Robert Ripley (1766-) of Maccan.
Robert died sometime between the making of his will 13 June 1840 and granting of probate 20 May 1843).
Robert was the son of Robert Ripley and Isabella Beane. He married Jane Rushton (1779-) who is not mentioned in these papers. Sons Thomas and William are mentioned but not son Henry, who has likely passed away by this time.
Includes Robert’s will made 13 June 1840. Robert left his farm to son Thomas Ripley and a Charles Storey. He also made provision for 3 granddaughters Margaret Ann Ripley, Jane Ripley, and Sarah Storey, previously unknown to me. In 1847, Jane and Sarah, then at least 14, requested that Charles Storey be appointed their guardian. I suspect Sarah Storey may have married Jamieson Brown, but have no confirmation. Estate files of Thomas Donkin (1775-1831), husband of Robert and Isabella's daughter Esther Ripley (1780-1859). Includes a copy of Thomas's will. Thomas had received all of the real estate of his father William Donkin Sr. William Donkin had drawn Lot 18 in the Yorkshire Grant at River Philip and later purchased Robert Ripley's Lot 17. Thomas left 410 acres to his son John, 200 acres to his son John bounded on the south by the lot drawn by George Oxley [Lot 19], and 290 acres to his wife Esther. Since the original lots were 500 acres, I would guess that Thomas Donkin sold 100 acres and that the land he gave to his son John and wife Esther was Lot 18. The 410 acres given to son Robert was probably part of lot 17.

Estate files of Robert Read (1752-1830), husband of Robert and Isabella's daughter Mary Ripley (1765-sometime before 1835). These papers relate to the final settlement of Robert's will. Mary had apparently died before her husband as her 30 pound legacy from Isabella Ripley became part of Robert Read's estate. Robert had raised William Ripley's daughter Hannah Ripley after her mother, Hannah Coates, died shortly after giving birth to her. Robert Read had left a bequest to Hannah Ripley but there is no indication it had been paid.
